Redundancy in Process Control Systems 

More than one power supply is required in the process industry to ensure system reliability.  The type of redundancy is defined by the number of additional power supplies that are connected in parallel to supply the load.  In our example we have the used 2 QUINT POWER supplies, which represents single redundancy.  (If we used 4 power supplies, we would have triple redundancy).  In the event that one of the two power supplies fails, the other device must still be able to supply the full load current.  All the QUINT POWER supplies can be connected in parallel - without any additional components. The important thing to remember is that the output voltages must be set at the same output voltages, and the parallel point of connection must be set as close as possible to the load. 

Both parallel sets of cables should also be of equal length, and wire gage size.
