The ActionI/Q DIN rail mount package was developed to reduce the cost of signal conditioning. The two primary design considerations were to house as many channels of isolated I/O as possible and to reduce the wiring requirements in terms of the number of power connections and I/O disconnects. The idea was that providing more I/O channels per module would reduce per channel material cost and the wiring savings would make cost of ownership low in the long run. 

The result was a narrow ¾ inch, plug in, DIN rail mount package with the capability to fit two full size printed circuit boards and provide up to 22 terminals for plug-in I/O. The ActionI/Q now enables Action Instruments to provide some of the most cost effective signal conditioning and isolation solutions in the world. Examples include the four channel RTD transmitter (model Q510) and the four channel (4-20mA) loop powered isolator (model Q500), from the Original ActionI/Q Series of multi-channel transmitters.

DC Action I/Q 

The DC Action I/Q Series is very similar to the AC ActionI/Q product line. The main difference is that the DC ActionI/Q line is DC powered, accepting 9 to 30V. The DC powered I/QRail is optional since the DC Action I/Qs have both DC power terminals as well as the power rail connector, unlike the AC ActionI/Q.

DC Input Limit Alarm
The ActionI/Q model Q108 is a DIN rail mount, DC voltage or current input limit alarm with dual setpoints and two contact closure outputs. The field configurable input and alarm functions offer flexible setpoint capability. Input voltage spans from 10mV to 200V and input current from 1mA to 100mA. Bipolar inputs are also accepted. The Q108 is CSA and UL certified, and CE Mark compliant.

The ActionI/Q model Q498 is a DC powered, DIN rail mount, DC input signal conditioner. The unit is fully isolated to 1800V between input, output and power. The Q498 has two isolated inputs that will accept one DC voltage or current input signal. The one output delivers either DC bi-polar voltage or uni-polar current. The Q498 also has a separate frequency input channel and a frequency output, as well as a discrete input and output channel. The field configurable input and output feature offers flexible, wide ranging capability for DC current and voltage signals. The Q498 can also be configured via a PC with the optional C698 Windows based GUI software. 

The Q498 also has the added capability to perform math calculations on the input values. This provides the ability to perform single or double input math functions. The frequency input can also have the math functions applied (with the exception of the Sq and Sqroot). The available operators are: +, -, *, / , Sq, Sqroot & Average. Process control functions include Hi/Lo Select (utilizes the Digital Output for channel identification), Rate of Change Limiter and Track & Hold (utilizes the Digital Input for the hold control). A 25-point linearization function is available for Channel 1 Analog input only. 

The field configurable input of the Q498 can be set via DIP switches for any one of four voltage ranges from ±150mV to ±150V or two current ranges of ±2.5mA or ±25mA. The field configurable output is linear to the input and can be set for ±10V, 0-10V or 0-20mA. Math functions can be used to scale.

Potentiometer Input Signal Conditioner
The ActionI/Q model Q438 is a DIN rail mount, potentiometer input signal conditioner with 1800VDC isolation between input, output and power. The input provides a constant voltage and is designed to accept any three-wire potentiometer from 100W to 100KW. The field configurable output is switch selectable for up to 5 DC current and voltage ranges. Typical applications include transmitting process control setpoints to remote PID controllers or interfacing position or level sensors to DAC systems. The Q438 is UL and CSA certified, and CE Mark compliant.

The ActionI/Q model Q448 is a DIN rail mount, bridge/strain-gauge input signal conditioner with 1800VDC isolation between input, output and power. The field configurable input can be set via DIP switches for any one of 11 voltage ranges from 10mV to 200mV. The field configurable output is switch selectable for up to 5 DC current and voltage ranges. Typical applications include isolating ground loops and interfacing bridge sensors to DAC systems. Temperature Input Isolator
The ActionI/Q model Q488 is a DIN rail mount, temperature input signal conditioner with 1800VDC isolation between input, output and power. The field configurable input can be set via PC or DIP switches for RTD, thermocouple, mV or ohm inputs. The field configurable output is selectable for any range from 0 to 20mA or 0 to 10V DC. Typical uses include eliminating ground loops in any temperature measurement application and providing an interface to data acquisition and control systems.
